I am an old Math Momma. I've been teaching since 1980 and have taught everything from 7th grade Title I math to Calculus in college. I've worked as a Math Specialist for a US Dept of Ed contractor, for an NSF Funded project, taught college full-time, and even sold online professional development when I had two children in college. My life has been eclectic and I wouldn't change a thing...even if it meant I could have retired 6 years ago. I am a teacher at heart in all that I do.
I currently teach Juniors and Seniors at Wayne County High School in Monticello Kentucky. My courses are Dual Credit College Algebra, Dual Credit Elementary Calculus, Pre-Calculus, and Senior Math for those who are not college ready based on ACT scores.
I am privileged to teach in a one-to-one computer school where many of my students will graduate with as many as 30 college credit hours. The goal for our incoming freshmen this year was to make an Associate degree in college accessible for them so that when they graduate, they will not only have a high school diploma, but an AA or AS degree from our nearby community college.
In addition to high school, I am finishing up my doctoral dissertation at age 61 and hope to be finished and ready to defend in April for a May graduation. This semester I am also taking 6 post-doc math courses as I plan to retire from K-12 in 3 years and begin a college teaching career in a four year institution--I will have an EdD in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum and Elementary Mathematics Education--I'll be finished with 48 graduate math hours in May 2019.
While I'm doing all of this, I also teach Human Growth and Development and Mathematics for Elementary Teachers for Campbellsville University. AND I have two grown children ages 41 and 36 and a 3 year old grand son who is the light of my life. I share a rural country home on 100 acres in SouthCentral Kentucky--the home place where I grew up--with two small Pomeranian Poodles. I secretly believe I share THEIR home, since they rule the roost.
